Who is Joran van der Sloot?

To understand Joran van der Sloot—charged with the May 30, 2010 murder of Stephany Flores Ramirez in Peru—to fathom the motives of the man previously suspected in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway we must put things in context and follow his tracks.

Such a suspect can be best understood by applying my cutting-edge approach to forensic documents and statements to read his deeper unconscious messages. Once decoded, his own words will tell the truth and nothing but the truth.

Background:

We must appreciate the discovery of an unconscious super intelligence. Pioneering psychiatrist Dr. Robert Langs first put forth the idea of a deeper intelligence at work in the mind, an unconscuiouly driven voice of reason that cuts to the chase and delivers its healing messages in stories replete with images and metaphors. Langs discovered this deeper intelligence while working with patients who would tell stories about others, stories that were actually about themselves. For instance, a man would discuss his daughter who planned to drop out of college, when in reality he was pointing out that he himself contemplated ending his theapy sessions, a plan just as inadvisable as his daughter’s.

Participating in the clinical research that validated Langs’ discoveries, in the 1990s I wrote a book about this phenomenon titled The Deeper Intelligence (which I now call the super intelligence). More recently, I’ve applied the knowledge we’ve gained about the super intelligence to the analysis of forensic documents such as ransom notes, suicide notes and statements by suspects in criminal cases. My resulting thoughtprint decoding method has been recognized by law enforcement officials, criminologists, attorneys and forensic psychiatrists/psychologists. This new way of profiling forensic documents adds a crucial dimension to the field of psycholinguistics.

The unconscious mind communicates constantly and typically hides its messages in verbal or written communication generated by the conscious mind. We don’t always say what we mean. These unconscious communications are what I call thoughtprints.

The capabilities of the super intelligence has been highlighted most clearly for the public by author Malcom Gladwell in his 2005 best-seller, Blink. Gladwell clearly established that the unconscious mind possesses rapid cognition, the ability to read situations in the blink of an eye, and reveal what it was instinctually picking up. For instance, Gladwell related the story of four art experts who for two months independently examined a supposedly ancient Greek statue to determine its authenticity. Their conclusion: the object was authentic. Three other art experts using a rapid-cognition “blink” take, studied it for no more than 30 seconds each stated it was a phony—which in fact it was. The brilliant unconscious mind—which Gladwell called the “dazzling adaptive unconscious”—had proven its vast superiority.

Gladwell is a reporter, however, and not a hands-on clinician, and he mistakenly concluded that instincts were the final pathway from the unconscious, otherwise a closed door. Unbeknowst to him, Dr. Langs’ earlier clinical research in psychiatry revealed that the brilliant adaptive unconscious mind communicated in a symbolic language all its own. In other words, the brilliant unconscious intelligence described what it was observing.

We had learned to access or—more accurately—listen to people when they were accessing the unconscious intelligence which I now call the super intelligence.

As noted previously I developed thoughtprint decoding, a forensic approach which reads the super intelligent language of criminal suspects who, as research shows, are prone to guilt and confession. In law-enforcement terms, these criminals have sentenced themselves to “the prison of the mind.” Using this method I was the only profiler to decode written messages from the Wichita serial killer Dennis Rader, a.k.a. BTK, to predict that he was on the verge of killing again shortly before he was apprehended. At the time I was ridiculed by other profilers, but I wasn’t floating a wild guess. I was reading and translating the distinct language of his super intelligence found in BTK’s own written communications.
Joran van der Sloot

Ever since the disappearance of Natalie Holloway on the island of Aruba on May 30, 2005, I have focused my forensic attention upon prime suspect Joran van der Sloot. I wrote an extensive profile of the case entitled Into The Deep—The Hidden Confession of Natalee’s Killers—based on my decoding of unconscious communications from the three suspects, Van der Sloot and two brothers, Deepak and Satish Kalpoe.

After publicly offering multiple versions of what happened to Natalee, Joran and the Kalpoes all escaped prosecution. My conclusion, based on their thoughtprints, was that Natalee had suffered an accidental death while being entrapped and abused by the suspects, had died from aspiration, and her body had been discarded into the ocean. The super intelligent messages were convincing. Police authorities had secretly endorsed the same conclusion. With law enforcement actively investigating that scenario, in 2007 Dave Holloway and Tim Miller of Texas Equusearch obtained sponsorship for an extensive three-month exploration of the ocean for the body. Natalee’s corpse was believed to be in a large fishing cage which had gone missing—key evidence which I helped uncover. Texas Equusearch eventually identified approximately 170 potential underwater targets, but the search ran out of funds and the targets remain in place—waiting to be explored.
Joran’s various stories—same picture

Joran van der Sloot offered various stories regarding Natalee’s disappearance, the most stiking of which was the version obtained by Dutch journalist Peter de Vries who secretly videotaped Joran talking at length. That story told to his supposed friend, Patrick van der Eem, essentially confirmed the identical story which I had culled from Joran’s super intelligence. He had changed two facts: Joran claimed Natalee had voluntarily participated in sexual activity which led to her aspiration death, while she was actually raped; and Joran misidentified an accessory, the driver of the boat which took Natalee to her watery grave, while denying that the Kalpoes’ were involved. Following his various versions including his most prominent story to Greta Van Susteren in 2008, however, he returned to the familiar theme of Natalee’s body being last seen on a boat. In the Van Susteren interview, Joran clearly stated that the Kalpoes knew what happened and implied that her body had been dumped at sea. Most of his stories portray the identical super intelligent big picture: Natalee suffered an accidental death involving drug use, sexual activity and a head injury before the body was dumped into the sea.

In June 2007 I presented my work on the Holloway case at the newly formed Cold Case Research Institute in Atlanta where I predicted Joran would continue to demonstrate extreme self-sabotaging behavior either leading to his death or his being jailed (similar to O.J. Simpson) due to his deep hidden guilt.

Key interview—Dusseldorf 2009: Joran was interviewed yet again in summer 2009, but it was only released publicly in February 2009. There was a noticeable change in his tone. At the time, as the interview revealed, Joran was obviously feeling guilty over having discedited the legal career of his father, Paulus, due to the Holloway case. Joran was also extremely apologetic to the Holloway family, acknowledging for the first time the enormous grief he had caused them. Once again he told another version of the same story. He depicts Natalee alone with more than one guy, using drugs, dancing—entertaining the guys—and suffered a head injury from a fall causing her death leading Joran and his friend to bury her body in water—in this case, the deepest part of a pond. This is essentially a disguised version of the same earlier story. Remember that his super intelligence is wholly incapable of lying.
Paulus dies

A year after the Dusseldorf interview surfaced, Joran’s father died from a heart attack in Aruba in February 2010, a month after canceling his partnership at the law firm where he had been employed. Paulus was 57. When I profiled the Dusseldorf interview in March 2010 and discussed it with Dave Holloway, my impression was that Joran’s hidden unconscious guilt was now so overwhelming that we could expect extremely self-destructive behavior to follow shortly. Secretly guilt-ridden over Natalee’ death, Joran now felt responsible for his father’s death due to the stress he had inflicted on him in addition to costing his father his job. In the oppressive prison of his mind Joran was carrying two tons of guilt.
Extortion attempt reflects major self-sabotage

In April 2010, Joran attempted to extort money from Beth Holloway in exchange for the “real story” regarding the fate of Natalee’s body. The FBI in Natalee’s home town of Birmingham, Alabama and Aruba worked to set up a sting. Not unexpectedly Joran fell for it. More accurately Joran unconsciously sought it out. He was secretly videotaped in Aruba extorting the money and once again provided authorities with a phony story about the body’s location, claiming thath his now-dead fathr had buried it under the foundation of a house. The FBI decided to let Joran escape hoping they could obtain more facts about the Holloway case before closing in on him.

In just a few days, Joran had escaped the country with cash in hand and found his way to a casino in Peru. Shortly thereafter, he murdered Stepany Flores in his hotel room. Not coincidentally Flores’ slaying occurred on the fifth anniversary of Natalee’s disappearance and death.

For a clear and concise look at Joran van der Sloot through the lens of his own super intelligence, consider the following questions and answers:
Was the murder of Flores connected to the anniversary of Natalee’s death?

Without question. Joran was unconsciously announcing to the world, In case you missed it I was responsible for the death of Natalee Holloway. In essence, Flores was a proxy for Natalee. She also apparently triggered his rage prompted by his deep guilt when she invaded his computer and discovered information about him and the Holloway case. In the back of his mind Joran was continually visualizing Natalee’s death—the brilliant super intelligence always knowing the precise date of her death. This day was an especially sensitive day for Joran when he would have been on the verge of exploding and punishing himself. And he was now also burdened by the deep guilt of having basically killed his father.
Was Joran truly guilt-ridden or a true sociopath?

Many news commentators and forensic professionals—because they’re unfamiliar with the super intelligence—have stated that Joran was a sociopath, a criminal narcissist who feels not an ounce of guilt. Nothing could be further from the truth. Law enforcement officials around the world recognize the universality of the prison of the mind, and Joran’s brilliant and honest unconscious makes it clear that he suffers extreme guilt and is desperate to confess—despite his arrogant demeanor. The slaying of Stephany Flores was a murder-suicide. Joran was so obvious, committed the killing so haphazardly and left himself no way of escaping the consequences that he basically sentenced himself to a prison term, one he knew he had deserved for five long years.
Should the FBI have arrested Joran?

Yes. After they invited him to dance, they really should have taken him home. After they balked at arresting him for fraud and hoping to get more information, he upped the ante and committed an even more serious crime, one which in many ways mirrored the murder of Natalee Holloway.

The FBI investigators did not appreciate what Joran was doing—that he was defrauding Beth Holloway to self-sabortage his own freedom. By committing such an obvious financial crime for which he knew he could be apprehended, Joran was covertly requesting to be arrested. Did the FBI agents think Joran didn’t know unconsciously he was secretly being taped? The super intelligence reads situations brilliantly.

His overt commission of a crime was a request to be incarcerated. Had he been arrested, he would have been extradicted to Alabama and, if he had been tried and convicted of extortion, would likely have served 6 to 8 years in prison, far less time than he’ll now face for Flores’ murder. What do you think about the FBI stating that they were letting case develop and hoping Joran would led them to more information about Natalee’s body?

Joran had repeatedly insisted to the world that he would tell one phony story after another and had no conscious intention of revealing Natalee’s whereabouts. His unconscious intelligence, however, had revealed over and over that her body was in the water and that friends had helped him dump it. The evidence was compelling enough that a sophisticated $1.5 million sea search for Natalee’s body took place off the shores of Aruba from December 2007 to March 2008.

A member of the Aruban investigator’s office had previously asked the FBI in Birmingham to interview me about my book, Into the Deep, which they did in September 2007. I later spoke with Hans Moss, the chief prosecutor in Aruba, who had been unfamiliar with my work and had been unaware that a staff member had been interested enough to involve the FBI. Moss later made plain to the leaders of the ocean exploration that he had no use for profilers like me.

The bottom line—law enforcement has a lot to learn about the mind and human motivation particularly how a suspect’s super intelligence will guide them to the solution of the case. Like other professionals in media and medicine who often resist change, law enforcement pros must become willing to seek answers outside the box, much like Gladwell’s instinctual art experts did when they rapidly intuited that the Greek statue was a fake.

The sad thing about the FBI’s reluctance to act before Joran traveled to Peru is that the agency very likely could have prevented the Flores murder if its agents had followed through with an arrest.

In medicine, after doctors and surgeons lose patients, we have death conference to examine how the death might have been prevented. Law enforcement should engage in similar post-event self-examination to brainstorm new and more effective ways to analyze the criminal mind.
Is Joran a serial killer?

He is an impulsive rage killer largely motivated by overwhelming unconscious guilt. The death of Natalee Holloway was an accidental killing as a result of drugging and gang-raping her along with the Kalpoe brothers.

Birmingham, AL, November 28, 2007: The work of Birmingham forensic psychiatrist Andrew G. Hodges, M.D., has been identified by Dave Holloway as at least a portion of the new “material” cited in media accounts surrounding the re-arrest of three suspects in the disappearance of his daughter, Natalee Holloway.

Holloway also gives Dr. Hodges credit for the direction an imminent underwater search for Natalee’s body will take. On his most recent trip to Aruba, Holloway said, “I spoke with the lead prosecutor on the case and we had a suspicion that a boat may have been used (to dispose of Natalee’s body) – you know Joran (van der Sloot, one of the suspects) mentions that in one of his statements.”

“I would say I had a very, very strong suspicion she was in the ocean,” Holloway added, “and based upon what (Dr. Hodges) has come up with now – based on what he’s come up with independently – it’s confirmed my suspicion that she’s out in the ocean. But (Dr. Hodges) was able to come up with a lot more detail (on the probable location) than anyone could ever dream of. So I was very, very impressed with what he came up with and that he was able to tie all three of (the suspects) together…”

Using his “forensic thoughtprint” method, Hodges compiled a forensic profile of what he believes happened to the Mountain Brook teenager following her disappearance from an Aruban nightclub during a senior trip to the island in May 2005.

The profile, detailed in Hodges’ most recent book, Into the Deep: The Hidden Confession of Natalee’s Killer, was published in September. Dave Holloway said he forwarded it to Aruban authorities within 24 hours of reading it. Within weeks, the Federal Bureau of Investigation interviewed Hodges, at the request of Aruban officials, to authenticate the work and qualify his profile for their legal system. They also asked him for an original copy of the e-mail on which the profile is based.

Hodges’ profile is based primarily on information he decoded from an e-mail written by suspect Deepak Kalpoe to an American acquaintance within five days of Natalee Holloway’s disappearance. Kalpoe, his brother Satish and friend Joran van der Sloot were the last people seen with Natalee. The three were re-arrested in late November and are being held on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter based on “new material.”

Hodges’ “thoughtprint decoding” technique identifies “thought patterns” that enable investigators to read between the lines of literal communication and find clues through the subconscious, the part of the mind which, according to Hodges, cannot lie and therefore is always confessing.

In analyzing Kalpoe’s e-mail, Hodges’ found numerous patterns indicating not only the girl’s death, but her sexual assaults prior to dying, the participants in the acts and the likely dumping of her body into deeper waters off the Aruban coast than have been searched to date. Now, Natalee’s father – encouraged by Hodges’ detailed profile – plans to search those waters for his daughter’s body with the help of Tim Miller’s Texas EquuSearch and Louis Schaefer with Underwater Expedition.

“I think this thing probably would not have gone forward without all of these confirmations including Dr. Hodges’ research. In fact, that information has been provided to the Arubans as part of the evidence file,” Holloway explained. “A lot more information came out in his profile than we ever imagined.”

Two years following the high-profile disappearance of Natalee Holloway, renowned psychiatrist and profiler Dr. Andrew G. Hodges announces the release of his book entitled Into the Deep – The Hidden Confession of Natalee’s Killer which tells the story of Natalee’s last night and provides a guide to what his corroborated research indicates is the Mountain Brook, Ala., teenager’s final resting place.

Hodges, a clinical psychiatrist coincidentally based in Natalee’s home town of Birmingham, has developed a forensic profiling technique known as “thoughtprint decoding” that allows criminal investigators to “read between the lines” of verbatim communication.

Hodges’ approach differs from other forensic profilers because he analyzes unconscious messages found in written and spoken communications rather than relying solely on the literal translation of such clues often considered key to investigations. Thoughtprint decoding spots “thought patterns,” and Hodges contends perpetrators of crimes are often compelled by their unconscious minds to tell the truth no matter what messages their conscious minds might convey.

At its core, Hodges’ research contends all people – using the unconscious “90 percent” of their brains – know right from wrong. Traditional forensic scientists, he says, are more likely to write off seemingly inexplicable criminal behavior as the actions of sociopaths rather than considering the unconscious – yet readily available – clues to the contrary. Such clues become clear to the trained eye.

Holloway disappeared May 30, 2005, during a graduation trip to Aruba, where she was last seen getting into a vehicle with Joran van der Sloot and brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe. The vehicle belonged to Deepak Kalpoe.

Using thoughtprint decoding, based primarily on an authenticated six-page e-mail communication between Deepak Kalpoe and an American acquaintance named Betty, Hodges has uncovered what he believes to be a step-by-step confession to Holloway’s murder as well as a map to her watery grave only about two miles off the Aruban coast. He also believes, “The extensive e-mail written within six days of the crime was triggered by an intense confrontation with Beth Twitty – referenced in the e-mail – who promised to make Deepak’s life a ‘living hell.’”

Hodges says his method is analogous to the more familiar right-brain method – meaning he reads communication for symbolic messages (think “images”) – as opposed to current profilers reading literal left-brain messages (think “just the facts”) when it comes to written documents or interviews, even though such profilers read crime scenes symbolically. In Hodges’ model the conscious mind speaks “left brain” and the unconscious mind speaks “right brain.”

Specific to the Holloway case, Hodges says Deepak Kalpoe’s e-mail “has all the earmarks of an unconscious confession detailing Natalee’s story,” promising in Deepak’s words “the truth,” “shocking truth,” “the news” and “The story,” not to mention repeated “lighthouse” imagery that Hodges interprets as Deepak Kalpoe’s intent “to shine great light on the case – again unconsciously.”

“All hidden confession letters are, in the end, a cohesive symbolic right-brain story,” Hodges notes.

In addition to the actual confession imagery that alerts the profiler, Hodges’ decoding identifies five other significant thoughtprint patterns, including:

repetitive crude double entendres which Hodges views as indicating that Holloway died a violent death in the midst of a brutal “gang rape;”
striking death imagery connected to Natalee: “my last day” (mentioned three times), “lost Natalee,” “fell asleep,” “fell down,” and “I quit;”
“choking” imagery he believes indicates she died from aspiration;
key ocean imagery, indicating that her body is on the ocean floor;
and vital container images suggesting she is still there, unmoved from where the perpetrators left her, in a large heavy container/crab cage (that went missing). Hodges believes Deepak’s written thoughts provide specific oceanographic clues as to where investigators should search next.

Hodges cites police interviews with the three primary suspects, which suggest the same group sexual assault profile. Importantly, Hodges also notes that Natalee’s father, Dave Holloway, with whom he has worked closely, has definite plans to resume the ocean search in the next month with the help of Texas Equusearch, using much more sophisticated equipment.

Steven A. Egger, PhD, an associate professor of criminology at the University of Houston, Clear Lake, says Hodges’ technique is “becoming the cutting edge of forensic science.”

“Dr. Hodges’ investigation of forensic documents in the Natalee Holloway case indicates that his ‘thoughtprint decoding method’ and ‘reading between the lines’ is, in fact, becoming a major contribution to law enforcement tools used by criminal investigators.” Egger observes.

Janice Windham, a Supervisory Special Agent retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, says Hodges “steps out of the box of conventional law enforcement forensic techniques” with the Holloway case, sharing a “remarkable method that reveals one’s truth – truth that is thought to be safely locked away.” “What a powerful tool,” Windham declares. “Law enforcement should wrap their arms around this.”

Key Issues

Two Cover up Stories of the Three Suspects

‘Hotel’ Story (3-on-1) vs ‘Beach’ Story (1-on-1)

As the timeline below (in Deepak’s June 4 email to Betty) demonstrates, Natalee died almost precisely at 2 a.m. on May 30, 2005 during a sexual assault by all three suspects. Immediately Deepak and the other two suspects were busy establishing alibis by utilizing internet communications, cell phones, and cell-phone text messages. The three young men attempted to establish “hard evidence” that seemed to show Deepak on his computer around 2:3o a.m., some thirty minutes after the time of Natalee’s death according to Deepak’s June 4 (2005) email to Betty.

Using their techno-toys, the three guys quickly concocted the “beach story” in which Joran went to the beach alone with Natalee—a “one-on-one” version—and left her there unharmed about 3 a.m.

However, by the time the Twittys showed up twenty-four hours later, strangely enough, the boys had adopted the far weaker “hotel story,” which portrayed a three-on-one situation in which they dropped Natalee off at the Holiday Inn at 2 a.m. Deepak attempted to manufacture a false eyewitness (his friend, Steve Croes), but when surveillance cameras proved no drop-off had ever occurred.

The hotel story quickly collapsed. Then they quickly resorted to the “beach story” which on the surface had stronger support.

What has been largely overlooked is that the three suspects clearly had the “beach story” in place before resorting to the “hotel story.” The crucial question: Why would they go with a weaker “hotel drop- off” story after first establishing a stronger “beach” story? There is one reason alone: the compulsion to confess. In actuality, the three-on-one hotel story revealed the real truth—a three-way sexual assault upon Natalee that resulted in her death. Natalee’s final moment involved “a three on one” story and not a “one on one” story.

Additionally the false hotel story showed three things: (1) the boys were liars; (2) they all were likely sexually involved with Natalee; and (3) they would readily resort to staging or establishing false alibis.

Tellingly, no witness ever emerged who saw any of the three suspects, or Natalee, anywhere near the beach on the night she disappeared, because it was a total fiction. Yet the beach story had significant advantages: (1) it took the focus off a three-on-one situation, moving it to a one-on-one; (2) it enabled the suspects—at least potentially—to blame one another. Deepak could claim Joran harmed Natalee, and vice versa. Indeed, some ten days after the fact the suspects’ hotel story had fallen apart, and the beach story now emerged even as both Joran and Deepak blamed the other for Natalee’s death, depicting a sexual assault gone bad.

Unfortunately, for the most part the media and the police have embraced the beach story, mainly because they don’t know how to read between the lines of Deepak’s June 4 email to his friend Betty, which tells the entire story of the crime scene-by-scene.

In addition, Deepak’s “hard computer evidence” establishing a secure timeline raises specific questions. Having thoroughly reviewed all relevant computer and cell phone records, police have thrown up their hands and admitted that the truth remains elusive. As Gerald Dompig put it in his Vanity Fair interview (published in January 2006), “Nobody knows what time he (Joran) got home. Nor is it clear how he got there.”

Other factors undermine the beach story cover-up. There’s no logical reason to believe that Natalee would resist returning to her hotel room after Joran left, and would instead choose to remain on the beach alone. Late at night, on a foreign island, away from all her friends, a girl who was always with somebody—it doesn’t fit at all.
Myth: Deepak not involved in Natalee’s death

Some claim Deepak now lacks a motive to continue lying and is telling the truth in the “beach story.” In reality Deepak has every reason to continue lying since, if guilty, he faces serious criminal charges. As noted above, Deepak (and Satish) and Joran both want to avoid the “3 on 1” story and stick with a “1 on 1” story.

Deepak is an admitted liar and repeatedly lied in police interviews. He has constantly backtracked and offered widely varying accounts of witnessing sexual activity with Natalee in his car’s backseat, noticing Natalee being drunk/impaired, and personally participating in sexual activity with Natalee. He has both praised Joran’s character and called his friend a rapist.

Myth: Deepak’s Emails Not Real

Into the Deep documents the author’s extensive validation that the emails (there were 3) were authentic. Dr. Hodges has spoken with Betty, seen the original emails, seen previous email communication with Deepak, clearly established Betty’s ongoing relationship with Deepak, and had contact with family members and friends of Betty. Betty regularly visits Aruba and is a reputable business woman in Chicago.

Wonder Woman (poster of emails) knows Betty and has continued to validate emails.
Deepak’s email matches his police interviews almost exactly but the email is a specific creation at a specific moment (five days after Natalee’s death) to tell the entire story uninterrupted–in a specific order.

In his email Deepak’s unconscious mind (deeper intelligence) tells a cohesive story. His deeper intelligence verifies itself with message markers in numerous ways—this forensic document could have been written only by him. Phony documents contain hidden confessions that they lack authenticity.

People who deny that the emails are authentic simply reveal their vested interest as they resort to the only defense available: denial of reality.

Additionally these folks will go to any length to deny the existence of the unconscious mind and the deeper intelligence where the real truth lies. (See Appendix A in book, “Two Types of Listeners.”)

Brief Timeline Summary (of Natalee’s death and cover-up)

1:15 a.m
Three suspects leave Carlos’n Chalie’s with Natalee in Deepak’s car
1:30 a.m
Three suspects begin brutal rape on shocked Natalee (on secluded road)
2:00 a.m.
Natalee dies suddenly and unexpectedly exactly 30 minutes later
2:10 a.m. (approximately)
Joran calls father Paulus who helps plan cover up which includes plan to bring body to Joran’s house.
2:15 a.m. (approximately)
Gardener sees three suspects stopped near Racquet Club. (Obviously suspects were already planning cover up attempting to appear as if only two boys and not three together.
2:30 a.m.
Boys quickly drive to Deepak’s house to establish alibi with Satish getting on computer and chatting appearing to be Deepak.
2:35 to 3:10 am
Deepak and Joran drive to his house staging phony cell phone calls/text messages to each other appearing to be apart with Joran heading toward his house alone. Likely they swung by friend/boat driver’s house where he snuck out to join Deepak and Joran. (Satish continues to chat intermittently on computer.)
3:10 a.m.
Joran, Deepak, and boat driver arrive at Joran’s house to meet with Paulus.
3:13 a.m.
Joran makes another phony cell phone call to Deepak, “Hey, swa (brother), I’m home.”
3:13 a.m. to 3:33 a.m.
Paulus talks to 3 boys for 15 minutes about plan to dump Natalee’s body in ocean. Boys then immediately head for ocean/sandbar.
3:25 a.m.
Deepak (really Satish) sends two email messages to Joran with no response.
3: 33 a.m. to 3: 56 a.m.
Paulus on computer appearing to be Joran: responding twice to Deepak (really Satish), checking soccer scores, and watching porn.
4:30 a.m.
Joran visits hotmail and likely back home from disposing of body in ocean. Shortly thereafter Deepak arrives home after dropping Joran off where Satish waits.
6:30 a.m.
Paulus is on his own computer researching the efects of drugs and alcohol together.

Understanding Timeline

To understand this timeline it is important to see how Deepak reveals crucial times in a crossword type pattern–here a clue, there a clue. (Remember too this email is the hidden story of Natalee’s death and written five days afterwards so every communication/thoughtprint has to do with “after the fact.”)

Pay attention to the particular event Deepak links to the specific time which provides clue. For example, “closing time” was definitely at 1 am. Closing time matches the music stopping, the dance being over, etc–the moment of death.
Since the three suspects left Carlos’ n’ Charlie’s at 1:15 am this means Natalee’s death was later — 1 am “closing time” for Natalee becomes 2 am properly decoded.)

Other time clues suggest the three suspects were alone with Natalee — “danced with her” for exactly 30 minutes before she died (they arrived at 12:30 am/”closing time” exactly 30 minutes later)

Each assault lasted approximately 10 minutes (e.g. clue: “I got off my shift at 10”). Deepak was continually preoccupied with the time frame of “10 minutes.”

Only 3 All-Caps Messages in Email Tell Entire Story in Nutshell

a) “Natalee was VERY drunk”
b) “GIRL KIDNAPPED–ASK JORAN VANDER SLOOT”
c) “I would NEVER hurt anyone” (Deepak)
